The analysis of the final decisions of the International Court of Justice and the traceability of their application since the case of Nicaragua v. the United States, showed that the optional jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, although it indicates a weakening of the role of the Court in settling international disputes, but in fact almost all the decisions of the Court in cases of this type of jurisdiction have achieved substantial, albeit incomplete, compliance. Therefore, although states may continue to reduce the scope of compulsory jurisdiction in favor of the voluntary jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, the International Court of Justice will remain a force for global public order and a vital, albeit limited, tool in resolving interstate disputes.
