The true foreign policy should be based on scientific and rational foundations, and employs the available capabilities in order to achieve the goals and interests of the state, especially its internal security. This could be achieved by redirecting the foreign policy according to studied perceptions and visions in order to achieve the goal of facing security challenges such as those that extend into the external environment of the state. The study deals with the Iraqi foreign policy orientations after 2014, that followed the emergence of the ISIS and its success in controlling a third of the Iraqi lands, which put Iraq as a country in danger of falling. This dangerous development necessitated a change in foreign policy orientations by adopting a new approach based on openness to countries that have an impact on the Iraqi security reality, achieving independence in Iraqi foreign policy and liberating it from external influence, and working to rebalance the Iraqi foreign relations in order to defeat ISIS and liberate Iraqi territories from its control, and thus strengthening and perpetuating the national security.
