أثر ارتفاع مستوى سطح البحر على الدولة في القانون الدوليّ

يمثل ارتفاع مستوى سطح البحر تهديداً جيوسياسياً كبيراً، إذ قد يغير بصورة جذرية التقسيم المعتمد حالياً لحقوق الدول في البحار. فرغم أن ارتفاع مستوى البحر قد يُوصف بأنه عملية بطيئة، لكن الإجراءات القانونية الدوليّة الرامية إلى مواجهته تسير ببطء مماثل؛ ومن ثم تبرز أهمية معالجة هذه الآثار مع تقدّمها. ويبقى المستقبل المرتبط بارتفاع سطح البحر شديد الضبابية، لتوقّفه على ديناميات الصفائح الجليدية الضخمة في غرينلاند والقطب الجنوبي، فضلاً عن التفاعل بين متوسط مستوى البحر وخصائص العواصف، والمستويات المائية الشديدة، ممّا يُهدد وجود وكيان الدوّل ذات الأراضيّ الجزرية الصغيرة النامية، وعملية ترسيم حدودها البحريّة باعتمادها على خطوط الأساس.
