Abstract

The historical factor is considered one of the primary elements influencing the formation of memory within societies. This influence can be discerned through the examination of the relationship between memory and history, shedding light on the role of historical experiences, events, and narratives that societies have encountered over time. History plays a crucial and significant role in shaping the collective consciousness of individuals and human groups, which is reflected in the formation of memory. Often, this role is overlooked, prompting scholars since the 1990s to advocate for a greater seriousness in engaging with history. This advocacy can be attributed to the Annales School, which contributed to expanding the field of history in the early twentieth century in terms of its purposes and subjects. Therefore, the historical factor is a decisive element in shaping the memory of societies, working to reconstruct and highlight memory within the practices of a particular community, thus influencing the formation of identity, values, beliefs, political development, and social cohesion.
